fiancé VS fiancée

On April 19, 2014, the love of my life proposed to me after being together for a little over 4 years. When a couple transitions into the next phase of their relationship, ENGAGED, it could take a little time to get used...  One of my big things was remembering to put that beautiful new piece of jewelry on back on my finger after I've showered or washed the dishes... Honestly, I would only notice I forgot once I was already on my way work. Another thing I had to get used to was calling him my fiancé... such a new word to me.

Well in these last 6.5 months, I never once looked up what the proper spelling was for the word that refers to your significant other that you are engaged to.  I knew there was an accent somewhere there and maybe one or two e's. "Toe-May-Toe" "Toe-Mah-Toe" same difference right?

Well I will tell you that I literally JUST learned today because I google'd it and wanted to be correct with the information that I share with you.

Question: "What is the difference between fiancé and fiancée?"

According to Dictionary.com, "A fiancé is a man engaged to be married; a fiancée is a woman betrothed. In American English, the accents are usually used. Both are forms of the French word fiancer 'to betroth or promise', probably from Latin fier 'to trust'."

Therefore, when you are referring to your soon-to-be's in writing, it should be: "fiancé" for your future husband or "fiancée" for your future wifey.

I have to make sure I tell my fiancé, Rich, because I'm pretty sure he's referred me as é and not ée. Wow we learn something new everyday.

The day we became each other's fiancé(e). <3

Hello World!

Today marks my very first blog post ever.  I am excited to share with you my thoughts and passion for the wedding industry and also my own journey of wedding planning with my fiancé. To be honest, I am so nervous because I'm not that great of a writer.  The pressure to sound intelligent... cool... engaging... It takes me forever put everything into the right words.  Hopefully by doing this [blogging] will help me gain more confidence in my writing.  So... please bear with me as I try to begin this blogging journey for Chic.  Enjoy!
